Took my Mom on a bike ride — on a beautiful (and rare) sunny day in Seattle.

This bike has amazing unique 3 cylinder motor — its kind of like the best of v-twin torque and inline-4 smooth power delivery. The sound is intoxicating when you open it up on a freeway — sounds like Formula 1 with a turbo. You hear a whistle and intake noise, and 2 tones from exhaust. Each 1000 rpm increment is the next key (like on a piano). So, if you’re a musician you can know exactly what rpm you’re in without looking at the tach. Super stable at higher speeds with telepathic steering. I am pretty psyched!

CB550 Cafe Racer Project

Track Day at Bremerton Motorsports Park

Today was so much fun! My friend Kevin and I drove to Bremerton Motorsports Park for a full track day with Porsche Club to practice slalom, skidpad, accident avoidance, figure 8, autocross and open events.

Safety first

It started to rain! AWD is so much fun on a slippery road.

They brought a water truck and sprayed the course for the “skidpad”. The right side of the circle was very slick. This exercise teaches you that you can turn and control your car just by adjusting acceleration. When you let off the gas, the weight of the car transfers forward, AWD catches on and the rear end gets whipped around. Sometimes you get into an understear (car keeps going forward even though the wheel is cranked to the side). If you smoothly turn the wheel get straight to get the tires rolling again and bring it back to the side, it will catch on immediately.

It’s amazing just how much everything I’ve learned from Aikido applicable to racing. It is the purest application of “Stillness in movement”. You’re keeping your mind calm and fluid while things around you are moving incredibly fast and chaotic.

The instructors also kept talking about “looking ahead” and being smooth, the same way in Budo you do not let your mind get fixated on opponents blade (or any particular thing).

This is where we attended ground school in the morning with driving instructors.

We saw a Mercedes-Benz SLR McClaren supercar at the track. What a beautiful car!

Evolution: Keep the wing or go wingless?

What do you guys think? Should I keep the stock wing, take it off, or get a little “trunk lip” for my car?

Stock Wing

So, here is a picture of my car (first pic). I think the stock wing is kinda big and silly, but it is functional … if I am taking 90-degree corners at 160 mph.

This car isn’t meant to be “pretty” — its all purely functional. But I think taking a wing off might make it look more subtle.

Without the Wing

More “grown-up” look :) Less flashy and less attention from cops. Real subtle and clean. The only problem is when you take the wing off, it leaves 4 small holes in the trunk.

No Wing, but with a little carbon fiber lip

I am leaning towards this look, it completes the car lines and also covers up those holes in the trunk that keep the wing on. (BTW, its made by Rexpeed and its called “Type-C” lip).

Jackie Chan and Mitsubishi

Jackie Chan loves EVOs (Mitsubishi Evolution) and owns all generations of them (which is 1 through 10). Most of his movies have an Evo chase seen – watch “Who am I”, “Thunderbolt”). As you know, he does his own stunts and most of he is also a great driver.

Here is a video of him driving Evo IX MR GG (Graphite Gray), exact same configuration as mine.

Here is another one of his Evos. I don’t know about this. I think he has a very bad taste, but whatever. Its a show car with all kinds of expensive carbon junk on it (I like the clean look).

B-Boy Performance at Big Easy for Red Bull “Flight Club” party!

Today was one of those memorable days I’ll always remember! My bboy crew, “Flovolution” performed at Big Easy for the RedBull “Flight Club” theme party. We shared the stage with breakers from Tri-Cities, and the “Circle Of Fire” (Seattle). Crazy Legs was there too, but he didn’t perform. Everyone was pretty sore from his workshop a day before. The Red Bull and Big Easy kindly provided us with Davenport hotel rooms, hats …

Crazy Legs of Rock Steady Crew will be at our studio

I got to teach a hip hop / footwork class tonight because my buddy Shanner was gone. Heard some great news … “Crazy Legs” of the Rock Steady Crew is going to be teaching a workshop at our dance studio (Simply Dance). I am pretty psyched about it. This guy pretty much invented breaking, windmills … etc.

He is one of my favorite dancers of all time. I also got some new pics from doing some freezes at the climbing gym from last week.

This weekend we did a breakdance performance at Simply Dance Studio (Spokane). The studio did a show on every type of dance they teach … salsa, swing, belly dancing and hustle.
